Re: How do Pendulums Work?
On a Pendulum monster there are Blue and Red crystals. The number beside each is that monster's pendulum scale. You are given 2 Pendulum Zones on your field to activate these monsters as spell cards.
While you have 2 Pendulum Monsters, you can Pendulum Summon monsters whose level are between the scales.
E.G.
You have 1 Pendulum card in 1 pendulum Zone with Scale 3 and another occupied Pendulum Zone with Pend 5, you can summon any number of Level 4 monsters from your hand or face-up from the extra deck.
That brings me to the next part, when a pendulum monster would be destroyed by battle or card effect, it is sent to the Extra Deck face-up instead of to the graveyard.
The only times a Pendulum Monster is sent to the graveyard is when an effect sends it there without saying destroyed or if it was detached as an Xyz Material.
Pendulum Card in Pendulum Zones cannot be replaced, they can however be destroyed by card effects. (Mystical Space Typhoon, Raigeki Break, etc.) In which case they go to the Extra Deck face up as mentioned.
Lastly, Pendulum cards have 2 effects if any. The first effect is the Pendulum effect, located in the box in between the blue and red crystals. This effect is only applied while in a Pendulum Zone. Under it is the monster effect, this effect is only applied while on the field as a monster in the monster zone.
I hope I cleared that up a bit.
If anything was hazy, check out Konami's official video on the subject, it should help you out.
